A Christmas Wool & Cotton Appliqué Class with Susan Baxter

Start stitching a Christmas heirloom that's sure to become a treasured part of your holiday traditions! Birds in Toyland by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins of Piece O' Cake Designs is filled with whimsical winter scenes, charming birds, and nostalgic Christmas touches that capture the magic of the season.

Rather than making the full quilt, students will create a charming holiday wall hanging by selecting four favorite appliqué blocks from the book's collection of thirteen delightful winter designs. Choose to work in wool on wool or cotton on cotton, creating a project that reflects your personal style. Students will also have the option to add the decorative border for a custom finishing touch.

Susan Baxter will guide students through the appliqué techniques used for their chosen project. Students working in wool will learn easy wool appliqué techniques, while those choosing cotton will learn fusible appliqué, making this class approachable and enjoyable for quilters of a variety of skill levels.

The Birds in Toyland book also includes instructions for the full Irish Chain quilt, additional appliqué blocks, decorative pillows, and wall hangings in multiple sizes—providing plenty of inspiration for future holiday projects.

Class Schedule: Join us on the first Saturday of each month, from August through November, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM. Meeting once a month gives students plenty of time to enjoy each section of the project between classes while receiving guidance, inspiration, and support every step of the way.

You’ll receive a supply list by email outlining what you’ll need for class. 🌟Many of the items will be available at Cactus Quilt Shop, and registered students receive 10% off all class-related purchases after signing up!

Class Cancellation Policy:  We get it—plans change. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 7 days before your class for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days in advance are non-refundable.  If you're feeling ill on the day of class, please call the shop before class begins. We care about the health of our quilting community and will gladly issue a store credit so you can join us when you’re well.
