Nancy's Corner , or .  .  .  As the Needle Turns!

As I sit to gather my thoughts for this note, we’re looking forward to another new year—WOW!  2008 already.  The new year also means the beginning of a new decade at Cactus Quilt Shop.  Doesn’t that just sound  unreal.   We had a wonderful 10th Anniversary Sale-abration.  The response to my “challenge” was thrilling and Susie Voss was our Grand Prize Winner.  You can still see her quilt hanging in the shop over the check-out counter.  Karen Fisher was the winner of the viewers choice award.  Congratulations to both, and many thanks to all those who participated.   

 My warmest thanks and appreciation to all our friends and customers who’ve supported us as we grew into a comfortable, cozy quilter’s home-away-from-home.  And congrats to our 10th Anniversary Sale door prize winners: Pat Smith, Roxanne Gullet, Donna Hopper, Ann Adams, Sally Morrill, and Karen De Young.  We’re going to try something new to Cactus Quilt Shop this year.  On the last business day of each month, the last of the fabric on any bolt will be 20% off retail.  So if there are 8 yards left on a bolt, and you buy it all, that’s 20% off the whole piece.  We already have some bolt ends pre-rolled, but all fabric is included.   While we’re discussing discounts, don’t forget my birthday sale , Friday and Saturday, March 14-15.  Fabric and Books will be 25% off.  Mark your calendars and come have some cake!!  Mmmmm….

 We started a new Block-of-the-Month (BOM) in January called “Talavera Treasures”, but it’s not too late to join the fun.  This quilt design is based on Mexican tiles and it’s fabulous.  
 May 1st finds our “Oldies-but-Goodies” BOM returning to the 1930s.  Our project is a delightful lap sized sampler quilt by Lori Smith.   I just loved it when I saw it and so will you.  Remember that most of our BOMs can be joined at any time.  We have some wonderful new classes planned for this Winter/Spring.  Our sisters Nubin and KK, will offer a “sweet” quilt of Chocolate Covered Cherries, and for you foundation piece-ers, both Elizabeth and Nancy
have new projects planned.  Check out all the details in our class descriptions.  Next time you are visiting the shop, be sure you find all the treasures David and I found at the Houston Quilt Market.  My personal favorites are the French Table Cloths!!  And you may notice a new face at the cutting tables.  We are delighted to welcome Kathy Harris to our staff.  And sew,….
